  • 280 Australian dollars

Service Description

In this three-hour intensive course, we will cover everything you need to know about hand stitching leather with a traditional saddle stitch. Some of the skills covered include: • Marking stitch holes straight and evenly spaced on a seam of any length • Marking stitch holes to allow for angled stitches including around corners • Measuring, preparing and waxing thread • Selecting the correct needle for thread and stitching hole size • Threading the needle correctly to maximise thread durability • Backstitching and setting the thread flat and side by side • Casting stitching to allow for an angled stitch on the front and rear of the piece • Using an awl to stitch items thicker than modern pricking irons can handle • When to use a round awl • Bind over stitching • Terminating stitching without backstitching • Terminating stitching securely • Stitching with a traditional English stitching clam (seated) and bench mounted (standing) and why you would choose either. This course is all about skills and not producing a finished product, but a small card wallet may be prepared for you ready for stitching for an additional $150. You can then walk away with a finished product at the completion of the course. Price is $280 per student, or $400 for two students. (max two students)
